It's showtime, my hearties
IT'S yo-ho-ho and a bottle of... well, an ice cream at any rate, on Sunday at the Haverhill Show which takes a pirate theme.
The two-day show is being officially opened at 11am next Sunday by CB9 Factor winner Natalie Clarke, and she will be helping to judge the children's fancy dress at 1.45pm.
Pirates is the theme of the fancy dress and every child up to age 14 who comes dressed up as one will receive a prize, while there will be special prizes for the best costumes.
Firm favourites are back again this year in the shape of the baby show, sponsored by Samuels, and the dog show, sponsored by Cheffins and, run this year by Water Hall Boarding Kennels and Cattery from Wixoe.
Timetables and line-ups have now been finalised for the two-day event, which again takes place at the recreation ground in Camps Road.
The show gets under way next Saturday with a car boot sale, which runs from 9am. There will also be a fun fair, trade stands and refreshments. Sunday's schedule of events starts with the car boot sale from 9am, while an ecumenical church service will be held in the band stand at 10.30am.
The recreation ground will be broken up into different areas, each with designated space for specific features of the show.
Students from a number of dance schools will showcase their talents as part of the line-up of events planned in the main arena – see separate timetable.
The baby show gets under way at midday with judging for entries in the birth to six months age category. Different age sections, which includes ones for babies aged up to two years, will be judged at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
The dog show starts at 11.30am, with all dogs and breeds welcome, including mongrels. There will also be a police dog show at 12.10pm
Other activities included on Sunday are karate, classic cars, Haverhill and District Motor-Cycle Club, bouncy castles, a fire juggler and circus entertainer, tombolas, charity stalls and trade stands.
A beer tent and numerous different caterers will be on hand to provide refreshments throughout the day. Haverhill Show is the main fund raising event in the year on behalf of LampH, the local charity which caters for disabled children and adults, so all the money raised goes to a good local cause.
Pitch in!
Pitches for the car boot sale and trade stands can be taken on the day, both Saturday and Sunday. Arrive between 6.30am and 10am and you will be allocated a pitch.
It is still preferable to book a pitch in advance, though, and you can do that by contacting Paul Brown on 01223 813061 or 07810 437970.
