Appeal for gifts for Haverhill area’s needy children is launched

Children and families facing a bleak Christmas this year through hardship and a lack of food are being offered help through an appeal supported by the Echo.

Each year we ask you to consider spreading a bit of festive cheer by buying an extra present for a child who may otherwise not be getting any gifts this Christmas,

Families struggling with finances, illness, parents splitting up – these are all issues which can take their toll on people at what should be a happy time of the year.

So once again we are asking Echo readers to dig deep, and share in the true meaning of Christmas by helping someone in the town less fortunate than yourself.

And it is so easy to do.

Simply buy the extra gift, wrap it up and take it to the Children and Young People’s Services in Haverhill House in Lower Downs Slade.

Use the red telephone to call staff.

Presents must be new and should have a sticker or tag identifying whether it is for a boy or a girl and the approximate age of the child or teenager that it would be most suitable for.

The children support team at Haverhill social services will distribute the gifts to needy families in the town and surrounding villages in time for Christmas.

For all the latest news see Thursday’s (December 6) Echo.
