Funeral to be held for former Haverhill Echo journalist Cath Le Maire
A funeral will be held next week for a former Echo journalist who worked at the paper for nearly 30 years.
Cath Le Maire joined the Echo in the late 1960s, having previously worked on women’s magazines in London including Women’s Weekly.
During her time at the Echo she worked as a journalist and a sub editor, organised the Miss Echo competition and chaperoned the winner to various events including darts finals..
David Hart, a former Echo editor and reporter worked with Cath for more than 20 years.
“I am sure there will be many in the community who, like me, will be extremely saddened to hear of Cath’s death.
“For nearly 30 years she wrote about their triumphs and tragedies in the most caring and conscientious manner.
“She was an utterly reliable part of the team, without whom the Echo could hardly have survived.
“She retained a cheerful, positive, can-do attitude in the most stressful situations.
“All who knew her and worked with her will remember a journalist of real integrity and a great friend.”
Cath, who more recently worked producing commercial featres across all Anglia Newspapers’ titles, died on Monday last week after a short battle with cancer.
She was a keen horsewoman and was extremely proud of her two sons, Richard and Andrew, and her four grandchildren.
Group editor Barry Peters said: “Cath was the consummate professional and a great character who thrived in the newsroom.
“She will be greatly missed by everyone here for her humour and friendliness.”
Her funeral is at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, at noon on January 26.
