AS we creep into May and with the festival season about to kick off, the burgeoning local musical scene continues to gather momentum.
Rockers Federal Black 40 have a busy month playing some esteemed local venues.
The band plays Cambridge Corn Exchange on Thursday, May 9, and again in Cambridge, at The Junction, on May 16. A gig at The Twist, in Colchester, on May 21, completes a
n impressive triumvirate of local hotspots.
The Umbrella Assassins have the pleasure of spending bank holiday Monday in Sudbury, at The Pied Cow.
The event lasts all day and is open to over 14s.
The Brollies are back in Haverhill, at The Vixen, on May 30. Copies of the lads’ new demo will be available at both gigs and it is on sale now at Record Peddlar, in Queen Street, and through the band’s MySpace site.
Joining them at both venues is the continually-evolving Indigo. The guys have really impressed since reforming with a new line-up in early 2008, with their own brand of energetic rock.
Also playing at The Vixen is the monumentally-talented Pelly’s Field, who, after overcoming a split with their drummer, now look set to push on with a new line-up.
Selective Walk, a new band to the local circuit, with a fresh new sound, completes the quartet of great bands.
DMS And The Kraze have no gigs in Haverhill this month, but try to get along to their shows at the Bedford Arms, Bedford (acoustic), tomorrow, and the legendary Dublin Castle, Camden, on Saturday. Darren and the boys have done a great job with their new material and 2008 looks like being a good year for them.
Haverhill favourites and rock comp winners Solstice continue to build on their solid fanbase. The guys play The Vixen on May 9, and hit the Man In The Moon, Cambridge, on May 24.
Last but by no means least, Alien Massacre take their epic guitar-driven show to Pot Black, Bury St Edmunds, on Thursday, May 8.
You can find all listed bands on MySpace.com, where you can listen to demos, look at pictures and artwork and contact the artists for bookings.
A new forum for discussing local talent, music in general or anything else that takes your fancy, has just been set up. You can register at www.haverhillforums.co.uk.
