TO celebrate the 150th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini's birth, Figaro Opera is putting on a series of performances of Madam Butterfly, in Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
This specially-adapted version will be fully staged, in costume, and sung in English.

The show centres on US naval officer Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, who, to while away his time in the port of Nagasaki, enters into a 'marriage' with the geisha Cio Cio San (nicknamed Butterfly).

When Pinkerton's ship sets sail, the faithful Butterfly awaits his return.

The first performance takes place on Saturday, and there will be further performances on July 18 and 26, and throughout August, September and October.

Tickets cost £16 (£10 for under 18s) and are available by calling 01223 357851, or 01799 530463, or on the door.

Sidney Sussex College is accessible from Sidney Street, Cambridge. Wine and soft drinks will be on sale from 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
