FORMER and current pupils and staff of Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College may be interested to learn more about the school's namesake, at a talk being given at Haverhill Arts Centre, on Wednesday.
Samuel Ward was a famous Puritan preacher.
Born in Haverhill hamlet, he went on to a distinguished career in Ipswich, punctuated by arrests for libel, exile in Holland and the birth of a lunatic son.
His brother Nathaniel wrote a best-selling book after coming back from Massachussetts, where he had been trying to convert Native American Indians.
The whole of this colourful tale will be narrated by Michael Horne at the April meeting of Haverhill and District Local History Group, to be held on Wednesday, at 7.30pm.
The talk is entitled The Ward Family Of Haverhill, and staff and students of Samuel Ward college, in Chalkstone Way, Haverhill, are encouraged to attend and learn more.
It is free to members of the history group and £2 entry for visitors.
For more information, call Haverhill Arts Centre on 01440 714140.
