Concern about police powers

IN an article in a local paper this week, it was shocking but predictable that there are new draconian powers in place.
Under the heading ‘people use new power to ban yobs, it is a clever cover as to the real head which should, in my opinion, ‘more civil rights abuses by the police and government’.

It seems to us, that it has now gone too far.

The new powers pro
mote that it is for our benefit, this new power, but that is far from what seems to be emerging.

The first problem is that it suggests you don’t actually have to commit an offence to be asked to leave the area or town.

It it up to the officer whether you look as if you are trouble or not.

Do the police really believe we put our faith in their decision?

On what criteria is the judgement made and will targets be a part of their decision?

Well, my worry is anybody and everybody who has ever had dealings with the police, now or in the past, however large or small, will be a target.

For it to promote this even if you have not committed an offence, it sounds like the policies of the pubwatch scheme.

It seems strange to bring in these draconian laws to help solve violent disorder.

When attending council meetings, there has been no mention of violent crime.

So why bring in a power to infringe everybody’s human rights, when they constantly ignore troubled premises and then pat themselves on the back at council meetings and portray that violent crime and drug crimes are down, and they are so low they fail to put this in the crime statistics to the council.

It seems, in our opinion, we all know why.

And as for Insp Sally Gallant making references that it is not there to spoil people’s nights out. Well, if this trend of human rights abuses carries on you will kill the town off, because no-one wants to come out now, because of the continued nit-picking camera-watching society the police manufacture.

Where next, because in our opinion, it is not to make our lives better – it’s to get targets for you.

And where do all these powers come from that breach human rights and the big question is why?
