Letter of the week
All of the housebound who were cared for by Jane Gatt of Care Force will have been devastated by news of her tragic and untimely death in that terrible accident last week on the A143 and our hearts go out to her children and family.
Jane was the main care person for my mother Louisa, aged 85.
Over the last two years they became friends and I would often hear them laughing and joking from mum's bedroom when Jane was attending to her.
She always gave my mother a kiss and cuddle before she left and was kind enough to have even bought her a Christmas present.
We rightly rely on professionalism from all who work in social care services but are additionally inspired by the example of someone who went that 'extra mile' in offering friendship, love and humanity.
Jane had these special gifts in abundance and I am sure that I speak for many when I say that she has left a gap in all the lives of all she cared for in her work among the elderly and housebound – we can only begin to imagine the void left in the hearts of her family.
May she rest in peace.
