After reading this week's issue of the Haverhill Echo I feel I have to express my disgust at reading that you have classed the Clements Estate as the poorest estate in Haverhill.
I am a Chalkstone resident but have many friends and family who live on the Clements who are all working class with lovely homes and good jobs.

I would also like to state that Clements Primary School has one of the best Ofsted reports in Suffolk!

I would like to know what statistics show you that the Clements is the poorest estate in the town and how you can generalise the whole of the estate and the residents living on it.

TINA CLARKE,

via e-mail.

n I MUST express my anger at the Haverhill Echo for taking it upon themselves to inform their readers that the closing Salvation Army Shop was ‘on Haverhill's poorest housing estate’.

I have lived on this estate for 15 years and would not consider my house or myself to be ‘poor’.

Has the author of this front page article actually taken a walk around this estate?

There are many lovely gardens where residents have obviously put in a lot of time and effort to achieve this.

Also, the houses are well kept, well presented and well maintained both by the local council authority and private residents.

The green areas and shrub land areas have improved a great deal over the past few years.

Therefore I would ask the author to kindly keep their opinions to themselves or at least speak to the majority of the estate residents before calling our estate ‘poor’.

JILL PORTER,

via e-mail.
