HAVERHILL has been deprived of one of its rare buildings of historic interest by Tesco.
We have all been inconvenienced by months of traffic disruption and residents living close to the site have been even more inconvenienced.

Compared with the problems of some of Tesco’s fruit pickers, however, all of these problems are as nothing.

Tesco (annual profits £3billion) is the largest UK buyer of South African fruit.

Most of the fruit pickers are paid the South African minimum legal wage of £97.90 a month – barely enough to feed and clothe their children. This is despite Tesco’s promises to improve the pay of employees subsisting on the breadline.

Tesco – every little helps. What about a lot?

AVRIL DAWSON,

ANNE EDWARD

DAVID PAYNE,

Foxburrow Close, Haverhill.
