We're happy to be called embittered

IT was never our intention to respond 'tit for tat' to the Haverhill Conservative councillors' recent letter (Echo, February 21) defending their position in respect of increasing the local council tax.
However, the electorate that we represent have advised us that they are incensed by the name-calling of the Labour group, that we are 'embittered' for challenging the decision made by Conservative borough councillors at local level on their recent decision.
The Labour group's position is very clear. Call us what you will, we will robustly challenge any decisions that we believe are not in the best interests of the people in Haverhill.
That's what we were elected to do.
We will turn the negative name-calling into something positive.
We will wear the label 'LABOUR embittered councillors' with pride.
You need a sense of humour in politics and we have more important things to do than to get involved in name-calling.
CLLR Maureen Byrne,
Labour group leader,
CLLR ELAINE CARR,
CLLR PAT HANLON,
CLLR ANN SAMUELS,
CLLR ANN THOMAS.
