ON several occasions I have come across stray dogs in the road, and on the last occasion, a Sunday, two were darting back and forth on a dangerous bend. A passing motorist and I tried unsuccessfully to catch them.
I telephoned the police who told me stray dogs were not their responsibility and to ring the dog warden.
When I asked for the dog warden’s number I was told I had to contact the council. As this was a Sunday that was impossible. I stressed the risk of a serious road accident and was put onto someone who took the details, but a telephone call later informed me it was not their responsibility.
Fortunately the dogs eventually ran off across the fields, but had I managed to catch them what on earth would I have done with two hyperactive dogs?
Surely there should be a dog warden on call at all times with a number the police can pass on. This is a dangerous and worrying situation.
