Fashion students at West Suffolk College have been invited to design original garments for a charity fashion show.

Five models will parade down the catwalk at the Fashion Fusion event at The Apex on April 19 in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

They will be showcasing designs by students on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion and Textiles.

The course is for students who wish to embark on the first stage of training and education for the Fashion and Textile industry.

It offers a lively and demanding introduction to the basics of fashion and textiles with the emphasis on innovation, skills and creativity.

Learners develop a wide range of technical skills through the practice of designing and making, supported by an understanding of cultural, social and business skills.

Topics include drawing and visual research, pattern cutting, sewing and construction, knitting, embroidery and fabric manipulation.

Learners create a portfolio of work and create a final collection either as a fashion collection with textiles or a textiles collection for fashion. The final collection will be displayed either as a static exhibition or fashion show.

The course is project-based and teaching sessions take place in design studios and skills workshops.
