OFSTED inspectors agreed with parents and pupils that Burton End Primary School is a good school, according to a report following an inspection in May.
Inspector Alison Pangbourne reported that pupils’ rate of progress improved as they moved through the school because ‘the headteacher and senior staff have high expectations for each pupil’.
The school was graded as good in all categories except in ‘the extent to which learners adopt healthy lifestyles’, in which it scored outstanding, and the attendance of learners, which was graded as satisfactory.
The opening paragraph of the report said: “This is a good school. Parents are very positive about it.
“Typical of many, a parent wrote, ‘all the teachers know all the pupils and that makes them feel comfortable and more able to learn’.
“The pupils agree saying, ‘you can’t be bored at lunch. There’s always something to do’.”
The school’s year four pupils are on course to be above national expectations and the inspector said all pupils made good overall progress from joining the school to when they left.
The report also had kind words for the school’s pupils.
It said: “They are polite, well-mannered and speak confidently to adults.”
