A SPANISH dentist who practised in Haverhill has been hauled before a professional conduct committee accused of botching a patient's treatment.
Fernando Luciano Guerra Liano this week faced a two-day hearing at the General Dental Council's Professional Conduct Committee to face charges bought in relation to his treatment of a patient during his time at West End Manse Dental Surgery in Wither
sfield Road, where he worked from June to August, 2006.
The complaint against Mr Liano, who qualified in Spain in 2004, stemmed from his initial treatment of the woman on June 8, 2006 for a detached upper bridge and fractured anterior abutment of a tooth.
Mr Liano is accused of failing to provide the correct treatment, including placing a post that perforated a tooth and extended beyond its root, failing to inform the patient of the shortcomings of the treatment, not recommending a follow-up treatment and not keeping adequate records of the treatment.
He is also accused of failing to remedy his mistakes when the patient made subsequent visits to him on July 11, when she complained of 'pain and discomfort' and August 8, 2006, in both cases failing to keep decent records, not referring her for specialist assistance and not properly dealing with her complications.
The schedule for the inquiry, which was due to take place today (Tuesday) and tomorrow in London, said Mr Liano had: "Failed to acknowledge her concerns, failed to provide her with an appropriate remedy for her dental condition, compromised her dental health and lost radiographs taken during her treatment."
