CRIME in West Suffolk has fallen over the past year, according to the latest performance figures released by Suffolk Police.
Around 600 fewer crimes were committed throughout the Babergh, Forest Heath, Mid Suffolk and St Edmundsbury districts – the latter includes Haverhill and the surrounding Suffolk villages.

Overall, crime has dropped across the whole of Suffolk by 5.4 per cent.

Chief superintendent Paul Marshall, western area commander, said: "There were almost 180 fewer instances of criminal damage, which has been a priority for my officers and staff, and vehicle crime has also fallen by 120 crimes – a drop of five per cent.

"Both of these results mean we have reached the reduction targets set."

Police in the area will now aim to reduce house burglary, which rose in 2007/2008, promote road safety and continue to tackle violence in a public place.

Ch Supt Marshall added: "Every member of staff here in the west is committed to making the area an even safer place to live and work."
