HAVERHILL'S annual 10-5-1 fun run – an event that has raised nigh-on £10,000 for local good causes since its inception eight years ago – has been cancelled.
The event should have been held on Sunday, July 27, the same day as the Haverhill Big Bash, but it has been called off after a change in registration rules scuppered its organiser, Haverhill Round Table.

Phil Parrott, Round Table chairman, said: “
You do have to apply for the permits a little bit earlier then you previously did and leading a busy life, as you do, we just applied for it a little too late in the end and there was no way of getting one on the quick, like we used to be able to do.

“We will be applying for next year’s permit soon to make sure we get one.”

Although disappointed that the races, of which the 10km had become a fixture on the serious road-runners’ calendar, Mr Parrott pointed out that Haverhill Round Table still had money in its funds to distribute to local charities – but people need to make sure they apply in order not to miss out.

Applications should be e-mailed to Mr Parrott at philip.parrott@lineone.net.

Despite the runs being cancelled Round Table members have struck a deal with Gurteen’s to raise extra cash by opening the factory’s car park and charging motorists £1.50 to park all day, they will also be offering to wash cars to raise further funds for charity.
