PLANS are being finalised to offer the Freedom of Haverhill to anyone who has given service to the community over a period of at least 20 years.
Freedom was given for the first time last year to people who contributed to the war effort and Haverhill Town Council now plans to extend it to individuals who have served the town.

This could be in local organisations, schools, churches, uniformed public services, business organisations, sports clubs and more, for the benefit of the community.

Recipients have to live in Haverhill at the time of the award and must have given service continuously in the town over at least 20 years.

Haverhill mayor Les Ager said: "It was felt that it should be expanded to people who had given outstanding service to organisations in the town."

The council is asking members of the public to nominate anyone who deserves the Freedom of Haverhill by writing to the town clerk at Haverhill Arts Centre before June 30.
