HAVERHILL in Bloom organisers have been able to put up two flower-basket trees thanks to a donation from town businessman Christopher Gurteen.

The two basket trees – one for Jubilee Walk and the other in Crown Passage – had in part been paid-for thanks to a £500 donation from Mr Gurteen, of Haverhill clothing manufacturer Gurteen’s.

Val Phillips, secretary for Haverhill in Bloom, said: “We are about improving the visual image of the town, making it look nice and pleasing. We are going to keep doing this and we are going to look at probably having other trees installed as and when funds become available.

“We are also going to be working with schools to get children interested in gardening and teach them the benefits of gardening – that it’s not just about growing your own food or flowers, but about keeping them active as well.”
