Two elderly people have been airlifted to hospital with ‘life threatening injuries’ after a two vehicle collision on the A134 in Sudbury.
The road has been closed from the KFC roundabout to the Valley Road junction, with queues backing up from Valley Road heading into the Sudbury from Newton Green.
A police spokeswoman said police were called at 1.54pm after a white Mercedes Sprinter van came off the road, stopping in nearby bushes.
Ambulance, fire crews and two air ambulances were called, with two people inside the second vehicle involved, a Skoda, trapped inside the vehicle suffering from serious chest injuries.
Once freed they were airlifted to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge with what an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman described as ‘life-threatening’ injuries.
It is not believed those in the van were seriously injured.
Police have warned of long delays while the incident is dealt with. Highways have been informed for diversions to be put in place.
