After a month in the job, Sarah Howard, the new president of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, has spoken of her hopes for the county.
“It’s not remarkable that I’m a female in this job,” Mrs Howard said. “I think the interesting thing is that I’m the first from the west of the county.
“It’s notable that the focus so far has been on the east, on Ipswich kind of area. Now the focus is coming to the west. Haverhill is expanding quickly and has a lot to offer. The west has a lot of potential.
“I’m obviously representing the whole of the county, but my appointment shows the focus is shifting west.”
Mrs Howard, who is also director of Haverhill based software company Sarand ltd, was unanimously voted in as the new president in July. The Suffolk chamber is the largest Chamber in the East of England and in the top quartile nationally.
Mrs Howard took over from previous incumbent, Dr Peter Funnell, who led the Chamber through some high profile campaigns, including the No Toll Tax on Suffolk campaign.
She had previously been the chairman of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. She has been succeeded in this role by Paul Donno of Haverhill accountancy firm, 1 Accounts.
