Leading councillors have backed a proposed deal with Government which could unlock £1bn of investment and more affordable housing for the Greater Cambridge area including South Cambridgeshire.

In addition to funding for transport and more affordable housing, the deal would see the three councils (city, district and county sharing some of their funding and powers, and working even more closely than now.

Cllr Ray Manning, district council leader, said: “One of the biggest problems we face in this area is transport as it is holding back new jobs being created and the delivery of much-needed new homes. Our determined campaigning with partners has seen us secure action on the vital upgrade to the A14, and the City Deal negotiations have unlocked a further multi-million pound investment for our people.”
