Haverhill holiday camps to cater for younger children

The popularity of Haverhill Leisure Centre’s school holiday camps for over eights has led to a new camp for six and seven year olds to be set up.

The camp will be run this Easter school holiday after demand from interested parents.

It has been running since February 2011 and provide morning, afternoon and day sessions for youngsters to try new sports and activities which vary daily. It also provides an alternative affordable childcare option for working parents keen to ensure their children are keeping active over the holidays with discounts for booking a week. A free Buff goodie bag is also given to all holiday camp newcomers.

This Easter school holiday the 6-7 Camp and 8 and over Camp will be offering a huge variety of activities daily from Tuesday, April 2 to Friday, April 12 including athletics, cycling, swimming, team sports, football, basketball, racket sports, Laser Blast, squash, film afternoons, arts and crafts, and tennis. Swimming will be available for the over 8s.

There’s also an additional cycling session for children aged eight to 14 year olds with British Cycling coach John Stockwell full of obstacle courses and team pursuits on Wednesday 3 April and 10 April from 11am to 1pm priced £5.

Amelia Epton, Abbeycroft’s Children and Young People Programme Manager, said: “Our School’s Out Camps have proved so popular that we asked parents in Haverhill whether they would like a camp for six and seven year olds over the holidays and we had a fantastic response. We are very excited to be offering our first one this Easter holiday as it provides a great childcare alternative for parents where children are kept active, interested and inspired over the holidays. It will certainly be an antidote for all the sugar consumed from their Easter eggs.”

The Six to Seven Year Old Holiday Camps cost £5 for a morning or afternoon session (9am to 12 noon and 1pm to 3pm). For the whole day (9am to 3pm) it costs £9.99 per child and £30 for the four day week, and £48 for the five day week..

The Over 8s holiday camps cost £5 for a morning or afternoon session (9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm). For the whole day (9am to 5pm) it costs £9.99 per child and £30 for the four day week, and £48 for the five day week. Extended hours of 8.30am to 5.30pm are available.
