Hockey action from the East Womens league division two Southwest. Haverhill vs Hertford - relegation battle. FL;

Haverhill went into Saturday’s (January 12) game having turned around their pre-Christmas relegation form and knowing a win would lift them three points clear of the drop zone and fellow strugglers Hertford in the East Women’s League Division Two SW.

Instead they were slow to start and soon fell behind, but Elaine Ward pulled a goal back to make it all square at the interval.

Mid way through the second half Hertford pulled ahead again, knowing the stakes were equally high for them as they looked to ensure their league survival.

As Haverhill pressed Clare Goldsmith was dismissed for ten minutes and then the floodgates opened, Hertford quick on the counter to establish a 4-1 lead to ensure the points.

Judith Bock pulled one back with a penalty stroke just before the final whistle but it was too late to be anything except a consolation.

They next play at home against mid table Royston on Saturday (January 19, 2.30pm start).
