Police in Haverhill are appealing for information and witnesses to an affray that took place inn Buckingham Road at about 6pm on Tuesday, February 11.
A blue mini was travelling along the road and the driver pulled over to talk to two pedestrians.
One of the pedestrians then punched the driver through the open window.
The driver jumped out of the car with a baseball bat and knocked his assailant to the floor before laying into him.
The other pedestrian stole the driver’s keys and ran off, at which point the driver gave pursuit.
A short while later the driver came back carrying the keys and drove off.
The police then got a call to attend a nearby house where it was reported that two males were injured.
Officers arrived to find two men hurt, one of them had been badly beaten and had head wounds and the other had less serious injuries.
Inspector Peter Ferrie, from Haverhill Police, said: “None of the pedestrians are telling us anything at all.
“What we are fairly desperate for are witnesses to come forward to tell us more.”
Although police believe they have identified the driver they still need to find out more.
If anyone has any information they should call Haverhill Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
