An Australian police officer who was visiting relatives in Cavendish for Christmas took his job with him on holiday when he helped arrest a man in Clare.
Graham Capewell, an acting sergeant from Brisbane, received a certificate of thanks from the Suffolk Constabulary for stepping in to help PC Martin Parsonson arrest the man.
The modest officer said: “When you see a police officer requiring assistance, you render assistance.”
TOWN PLANS DELAYED
A delay in completing a Market Town Health Check report for Haverhill meant that any hoped-for improvements in the town would be delayed.
The report had been expected to be finished by the end of November 2003, giving time for projects to come into St Edmundsbury Council’s budgeting process for the next financial year.
But the process has still not been completed, meaning the budget priorities were going forward with virtually no Haverhill proposals at all.
The problem was made worse by the fact that the borough council wanted to see the report before starting any schemes.
