Echo, February 26, 2004
The Echo launched the Lifeline A1307 campaign in a bid to make the road safer.
The campaign had two aims - to heighten drivers’ awareness of the need for safety in using on of our most notorious roads and to persuade the authorities to bring forward desperately needed improvements.
In the previous five years alone the six-mile stretch of the road between Haverhill and Linton had seen ten fatal and 28 serious-injury collisions.
Kedington Royal British Legion Hall faced having to raise £20,000 before October in order to comply with the new Disability Discrimination Act.
The hall was regularly hired out for private parties and was also used by organisations such as Kedington Gardeners Society, Mothers and Toddlers and West Suffolk College.
But work had to be done to the hall, which was donated to Kedington RBL in the 1930s by Frank Sainsbury and Lady Rainey, to make it more accessible for the disabled.
