Haverhill hope to banish the disappointment of their defeat at Shelford 3s when they play Cottenham Renegades on Saturday.

Haverhill were missing a number of players as they went down 55-8 to their local rivals to drop out of the top two in the Greene King Eastern Counties League Division Two West.

With many of those players available again, including top try scorer Adam Hunt (now recovered from concussion), head coach Jake Jeffs is looking forward to taking on the league leaders at Castle Playing Fields (3pm start).

He said: “They are going to be good, we are under no illusions.

“This is the hardest game we’ve had this year.

“If we compete the same as we did against (second placed) Cambridge 3 (Haverhill lost 31-24) we have got big chances.

“I would rate our pack against any team in this league, so If we play a good game up front I think the rest will fall into place.”

Haverhill will be further boosted by the return of full back Luke Stockings and experienced prop Paul Bergin, although Jeffs remains on the sidelines with injury.

Haverhill 2 take on Cantabrigian III at home in Division Three West at the same time as the first team match.

The club is also having a VP day, with 45 guests having a sit down meal at 1pm before watching the double header.

After the matches, the club will present a representative of Macmillan Cancer Support with a cheque.
