Final meeting of NHS Suffolk
The final meeting of the board of NHS Suffolk will take place next Thursday (28).
NHS Suffolk is being abolished as part of a national overhaul of the NHS. From April 1, local healthcare needs will be met by two GP-led clinical commissioning groups – NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group.
Alastair McWhirter, NHS Suffolk’s chairman said: “Since it was established in 2006, NHS Suffolk has made a real difference to the health and wellbeing of local people. I am proud of our many achievements and this could not have happened without the dedication and hard work of every member of staff.
“NHS Suffolk was established with a debt hangover of £40 million from the amalgamation of the county’s previous healthcare commissioners. Within three years that debt was eradicated. This allowed us to focus on making real and significant improvements including co-founding Healthy Ambitions Suffolk, increasing access to GP and dental services, delivering improved end-of-life care and making sure that patient safety continued to be the priority.
“It is right that GPs and clinical experts are in control of developing healthcare services for the people of Suffolk. NHS Suffolk hands over the reins with pride in what has been achieved. It must also be recognised that there is still a lot of work to do as we hand over the baton to the two clinical commissioning groups in Suffolk.
“NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group will undoubtedly take forward health and health care services in the county.”
The final meeting of the board of NHS Suffolk will take place on March 28 at: The Players’ Suite, Ipswich Town Football Club, Portman Road, Ipswich IP1 2DA. The meeting will commence at 9.45 a.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Members of the board will be able to meet with the public from 9.15am.
Following the meeting of the board of NHS Suffolk, sub-committees of the two CCGs Governing Bodies will meet in public to formally receive the Transfer Schemes and transfer of relevant PCT functions.
NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG - 11.30am.
