20mbps satellite broadband service goes live in UK
Avonline Broadband, the UK’s largest supplier of the Tooway satellite broadband service, has announced download speed increases to 20Mbps for all its packages, with an option of unlimited data allowances also introduced for the first time in this country.
The enhanced satellite broadband service delivers real 20Mbps superfast broadband anywhere in the UK immediately with no need for infrastructure investment – covering every home and business that has, up to now, been condemned with a broadband ‘notspot’ and ‘slowspot’ label.
Government ministers have said they are looking to satellite technology to tackle broadband speeds in rural areas.
Science minister David Willetts told the House of Commons in December that satellite broadband was seen by the government as an “essential means to deliver faster internet access for rural communities, businesses and individuals”.
Everywhere in Britain could access broadband via satellite, he added. In making high quality broadband available to everyone, immediately, Avonline Broadband is now genuinely delivering the ‘Broadband for all’ vision set out by the influential House of Lords Communications Committee last year.
The new packages launched by Avonline Broadband now provide the best value satellite broadband ever seen in the UK market.
Avonline offers five packages, all of which now deliver 20Mbps download speed and 6Mbps upload with prices from £16.95 per month.
Data allowances have been increased and for the first time, unlimited monthly data allowance is included in Avonline’s Absolute package, costing £64.95 per month.
Mark Wynn, managing director of Avonline, said: “With real 20Mbps download speeds, unlimited data allowances and competitive pricing, our Next Generation satellite broadband services are now substantially better than the ADSL services available to millions of UK homes and businesses.
“We can offer immediate UK-wide availability so there are no longer any reasons not to choose satellite broadband today.
“Why would you suffer the uncertainty of an indefinite wait for fibre or cable broadband? Most people suffering from poor broadband know that the reality is that such services will not reach them for years – if at all.”
He added: “Our service is here now and is perfect for the many growing uses of fast reliable broadband. Unlike traditional fixed line broadband, a 20 Mbps service from a satellite can deliver a true 20 Mbps download speed - great for streaming High Definition video.”
Avonline customer John Sykes of Huddersfield said: “Satellite broadband has revolutionised our lives.
“It makes it possible for me to easily transact business from home, which was always extremely difficult before. “
Now I can send and receive meaty files quickly and easily.
“Before that we had a dreadful landline service which was barely able to give me an iTune download.”
Self-employed IT consultant David Borley, who lives in the village of Thorncombe near Chard in Somerset, is another of those who have found a solution in Avonline’s new generation of Ka satellite broadband services.
He said: “Internet access is extraordinarily important to me.
“I have been registered disabled and I work from home.
“And as my business is computer related, internet access is absolutely vital.
“When we moved in to the village BT had a monopoly and so we went with them.
“We were receiving just 0.7 Mb download speed which was pathetic.
“BT did offer me one option – a 20 Mb leased line costing £6,500 for installation and then £500 per month rental!
“I explored every possibility in looking for a solution to the broadband problem and discovered Avonline, and our satellite broadband system was installed within two weeks of contacting them.
“It’s brilliant.
“Compared to the previous broadband we had this is so fast and we have never had any downtime. We have never experienced any slowdown at any time of the week.
“Whether it is day or night satellite broadband is entirely reliable.”
Mark Wynn of Avonline said: “Satellite internet access guarantees the same high level of performance in every location regardless of landscape - on the top of a mountain, in the middle of the countryside, in a small isolated village or a city street. All you need is a small 74cm dish and a modem.
“These new 20Mbps high-speed options mean fast reliable broadband is already available to anyone in the UK today, making redundant the promises or plans of traditional copper of fibre cable providers.
“The expansion of data allowances with unlimited data options on three packages also allows users to take full advantage of the many online entertainment services now available.”
The new generation of Tooway Ka technology satellites went live in 2011. The Tooway service is delivered by KaSat, a part of the Eutelsat global fleet of satellites, and beams fast, reliable broadband across the whole of the country.
Using Tooway Broadband from Avonline can also mean free telephone calls via the internet, and subscription-free HD TV through the same dish.
