Police are reminding people to lock their cars and homes after they found 74 cars and four homes left unlocked overnight in Linton – including one car with a boot full of presents.

Sgt Keith Curtis led patrols as part of Operation Oaklands to see if cars had been left locked, and was surprised to see a staggering number of drivers had been so remiss and one narrowly avoided having a bleak Christmas.

The checks were carried out last Tuesday night (December 18), with police then moving on to check nearby Fulbourn the following day.

Upon finding the cars unlocked officers contacted owners to tell them of their mishap and to lock their cars.

Checks on 30 homes found that four of them had been left unlocked, with police leaving a message inside the homes warning owners that they could be a victim of burglary.
