A coach carrying 42 primary school children from Whittlesford has overturned near Hilgay in Norfolk and the A10.

Children, aged between 4 and 11 years old, and members of staff from William Westley Church of England Primary School are reported to have suffered minor injuries when the coach came off the A10 at about 11am this morning (July 22).

The A10 reopened just before 5.00pm this evening having been closed for nearly six hours.

The coach was taking the children on a school trip to the beach at Hunstanton when it overturned, rolling off the road onto its side.

The driver of the coach had to be cut free and is currently receiving hospital treatment for suspected back injuries. A number of the children and staff received treatment for shock at the scene.

The coach was carrying 42 children, five members of staff and one parent helper from the Cambridgeshire area, as well as the driver.

Four fire crews from Norfolk Fire and Rescue were sent to the scene.

The A10 was closed in both directions for nearly six hours, with diversions in place at Steels Drove and Bridge Street, while fluid was removed from the road.

The vehicle has been recovered from the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information regarding it is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
