Robert Pannell saw this photo in the Echo’s nostalgia section on April 3 and has been in touch to explain more about it.
The photo was taken at the Pontins Championships held at Prestatyn, North Wales in October/November 1979 for bands which had qualified earlier in the year.
Haverhill Silver Band played a given test piece, which all the finalists played, called Cotswold Suite by Denzil Stephens, and came third out of about 15 bands. Their conductor was the late Les Ager.
The people in the photo are, from left to right; Karen Chinery (nee Ager), Joy Heath, the late Les Mayes, Jeanette Brooker and Diane Pannell (nee Scott).
