Armed police rush to Haverhill after gun scare

Armed police rushed to Haverhill last Thursday (February 7) after a woman told police she had seen her ex-boyfriend holding a gun in his pocket.

The incident happened when she saw him at the Jet garage in Manor Road at 8.15pm.

A local police sergeant came across the 27 year old Haverhill man and arrested him before armed police arrived.

A BB gun was later found during a search of his mother’s house, and he was cautioned by police.

Insp Peter Ferrie said: “This shows the huge risks you can run by carrying an imitation firearm in a public place.

“We treat any firearms incident extremely seriously.”
