The teams limbering up for the third Wacky Races charity challenge have been revealed – and competitive spirit is already in the air.
Although there can be only one top prize, eight companies want to be the winners at this year’s canoe relay race, taking place at Milton Country Park on Saturday, May 31.
In a new twist, teams won’t just be battling it out on the water – they will also have to contend with an inflatable assault course on the land.
Teams of six participants will do battle from residential estate agents Bradshaws, commercial property consultants and chartered surveyors Januarys, recruitment consultants Cooper Lomaz, and banking experts HSBC. Living Sport, the charity that works to raise the profile and engagement of sport is also taking part, as is the Cambridge News, Star FM and a joint team made up of staff from Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and event organisers Method Creative.
Businesses taking part have made a cash pledge which goes directly to the fundraising campaign for the new Arthur Rank Hospice, due to open in spring 2016 at Shelford Bottom.
Last year’s event raised more than £3,500, and organisers Method want to top that total this year.
Louise Kent, commercial manager at HSBC, said: “We are extremely pleased to be involved in this iconic event, and I’m sure that it will be great fun.
“It’s a superb opportunity to meet other firms and also raise money for a good cause. Our team loves a challenge, and we will be doing our best to take the prize winner’s trophy, and have a great day at the same time!”
Method’s brand and strategy director, Kirsten Corrigan, said: “Wacky Races is fun and certainly different as a business networking event, but also surprisingly competitive.
“I’m sure everyone involved will want to take the winner’s trophy back to their work places. But more importantly it is supporting the fundraising campaign for the new Arthur Rank Hospice.”
Wacky Races is supported by outdoor experience company StepOut4Adventure, which provides canoes, guidance and support during the event.
Last year Wacky Races was named a finalist in the Third Sector Business Charity Awards.
