The work of West Suffolk Hospital’s dedicated midwives has been recognised during a special awards ceremony and fund-raising ball organised to celebrate the life of a popular colleague.
The inaugural Hannah Seeley Awards Ball took place at Hengrave Hall on Friday (September 20) and was attended by around 100 of the young midwife’s former colleagues.
During the evening, five special awards were presented by consultant obstetricians David Ross and Peter Harris, who worked closely with Hannah before she passed away last April. The winners were:
• Hannah Seeley Midwife of the Year – Vicky Fallows
• Mentor of the Year – Sue Pickwick
• Promoting Normal Birth Award – Marie Moye
• Team of the Year – Lark Midwifery Team
• Innovation in Midwifery Practice – Lesley Price
During the evening, a host of top prizes were auctioned, including a fortnight’s holiday in Florida, a week in a villa in the Algarve, a signed Norwich City shirt and a £400 driving package donated by Ixworth-based Fun on Wheels.
In total, just over £4,000 was raised through the event, which will be added to £20,000 already raised by Hannah’s family and friends, led by fiancé Mark, to fund an additional birthing pool at the hospital.
Patricia Davis, general manager and head of midwifery at the hospital, said: “We were incredibly impressed by the number and quality of the nominations we received for these important awards, which we organised to celebrate Hannah’s life.
“Our congratulations go to all of the worthy winners.
“We’re also really pleased to have raised so much money through this event, and would like to thank everyone who generously donated prizes for our auction and raffle.
“ The support we have received has been wonderful.
“The money will be added to the fantastic sum already raised by Hannah’s fiancé Mark and will pay for an additional birthing pool at the hospital.
“Not only will this make a big difference to lots of women in the future but will also ensure that Hannah’s memory continues to live on.”
