Plough Monday raised £2,051.25 for this year’s beneficiaries.

The annual event was held in Balsham on January 7.

The cash will be distributed between Meadow Primary School, Balsham Youth Group and Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline at the presentation evening, at The Bell pub at 8.30pm on Monday (February 4).

Jan Ellam, who organises the event, said: “I have to say that after my earlier misgivings about the weather, it was actually a warmish dry night which may well be the reason why we had so many followers.

“Thank you it was lovely to see so many people turn out to see us and in particular I would like to thank our wonderful hosts who fed, watered and made us so comfortable that were in danger of outstaying our welcome.

“There was also a higher number than usual of Morris men, some who travel quite a way just to be part of Plough Monday, we are very grateful to them for accompanying us with their music and traditions.

“Sales of raffle tickets were good again this year, thanks George, glad to see some winners among your batch of tickets.

“First prize of £100 was won by Gill Parry Brown, £40 meat voucher went to Mr Taylor of Bartons Close, the Bell meal voucher was won by Ruth Jones and the Dog and Duck meal voucher by Roland Daniels.

“All Ploughmen, past and present, helpers, hosts and in fact, anyone who would like to be involved with the club and our activities are very welcome to join us.”
