Beneficiaries announced for Sawston Fun Run 2013
Thirteen local charities and 180 primary school students are all set to benefit from the Sawston Fun Run 2013.
The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Sawston District and in its 26th year, will be held on April 28 at Sawston Village College (SVC).
The target is to raise £14,000, which would add to the £368,000 raised for good causes since the 4.7 mile race’s inception in 1986.
The major beneficiary is Opportunities Without Limits (OWL), now part of the Papworth Trust, with funds helping to provide furniture and equipment to aid those with learning and physical disabilities. Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, South Cambs Riding for Disabled, the Mary Challis Trust and Marven Youth Centre, which is in need of repairs, will be the other major beneficiaries.
Other recipients include Rainbow Pre-school, Jigsaw Playgroup, Sawston Youth Group, Sawston Youth Drama (SYD), 1st Sawston Scouts, Sawston Air Cadets, Romsey Mill Trust and Whittlesford and District Brownies, while all 180 year six children at the seven local primary schools will be given a ‘Dictionary 4 Life’.
Annette Angell, community and corporate fund raising manager of Papworth Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be chosen as one of the beneficiary charities for the Sawston Fun Run. We work closely with our community, helping disabled people to learn new skills and make friends through our Owl Bikes, Owl Café and Owl Centre.
“To enable us to help even more people we will be moving to new premises in Sawston, we look forward to being part of the day and cheering on all the runners.”
President of the rotary club Simon Lake said: “We recognise the amount of benevolence that exists in the community and we’re just pleased that we can assist those that support others and to bring together many businesses that want to play their part too.
“We aim to attract over a thousand entrants again and urge them all to get their own sponsors – it’s important to remember its community fun-day but with a serious outcome.”
The event is sponsored by The Cambridge Building Society, Scotsdales, the Red Lion in Whittlesford, Adams Harrison solicitors, Bradshaws estate agents, Budgens Sawston, Gibbs Denley Insurance Services, Morgan Sindall, Vindis Sawston and Sawston Parish Council.
Online registrations can be made at www.sawstonfunrun.co.uk and registration forms are available from branches of The Cambridge Building Society and SVC.
