Business coach John Porter will be the guest speaker at the next Best of Haverhill event when it takes place at the Days Inn hotel from 10am until 11.30am on Thursday, January 16.

John, who started his company, Business Improvements in 1984 and celebrates 30 years of self employment this year, will give an inspiring insight into the challenges and opportunities of running your own business.

John, who offers training, coaching, mentoring and consultancy services, is well equipped to talk about the trial, tribulations and joys of being your own boss.

He left the comfort and security of a role in senior management, employed by a household name in the music business, to go it alone and has never looked back.

Over the years he has experienced and survived two recessions, five prime ministers, has worked with over 7,000 people and has enough anecdotes to easily fill at least two business books.

Elaine Carr, owner of the bestof Haverhill comments, “John is a very experienced business man and I think he can provide some useful tips and advice on how to survive and thrive in business.

“Running your own company is not an easy option; it brings all sorts of challenges and can be very lonely.

“I think it’s helpful for business owners to know the issues they face on a day to day basis are quite common and they aren’t generally insurmountable.

“Business is a roller coaster – when you don’t have enough work you worry, when you have too much work you worry how you will do it all and keep everyone happy.

“Self employment is not for everyone but armed with the right attitude and support it can provide a very rewarding way of life.

“John will aim to give us some guidance on how to achieve this and avoid the pitfalls.”

If you would like to attend this free event please book by 5pm on Tuesday, January 14.

The event is open to all local businesses; you do not need to be a member of bestof Haverhill to attend. If you require any further information please email Elaine Carr at Haverhill@thebestof.co.uk.
