Cambs Police warn of watch scam

PEOPLE are being warned not to fall for a watch scam being carried out in Cambridgeshire.

Offenders have been offering watches in supermarket car parks and at service stations, claiming they are worth hundreds of pounds.

The latest incident happened at 10.30am on Tuesday, December 11 when a man stopped a motorist in Great Staughton asking for money for petrol. The victim was offered watches and rings, which they agreed to buy for £10, but later found out they were worthless.

Since October there have been 10 incidents where victims have handed over money.

PC Kelly Purkiss said: “I would urge people to be vigilant if they are offered watches or other items of jewellery for sale in such circumstances.

“Remember if something appears too good to be true, it usually is.”
