Enjoyable time for twinning visitors
A TOUR of the birthplace of the composer Bach was one of the highlights experienced by a 55-strong party of Haverhill and District Town Twinning Association during a recent visit to their twin town in Germany.
The group, which included an encouraging number of younger people, spent five days in Germany staying with host families at Ehringshausen, during which time they took a trip to Eisenach in the former East Germany.
Eisenach is famous not only for being the birthplace of Bach, but also the place where famous religious reformer Martin Luther went to school and the home of the Wartburg factory where the Trabant car was manufactured.
While in Eisenach they had a guided tour of Wartburg Castle, where Luther was once in hiding.
On the third day of the group's stay the Ehringshausen Association organised a barbecue for more than 100 people on the hillside overlooking the town, where their mayor, Eberhard Niebch and his deputy were also present.
The visitors also spent a day with their host families visiting towns, castles, markets and other places of interest in the Ehringshausen area.
