Fun and frolics for Comic Relief
Children at Stepping Stones Under Fives do their bit for Comic Relief
People from all walks of life in Haverhill and the surrounding area played their part in making this year’s Comic Relief the most successful ever.
Schools, charities and workplaces were united in one aim - getting into the spirit of last Friday’s (March 15) Red Nose Day.
Plenty went on at Samuel Ward Academy, including raffles, guess the flavour of the crisp, whack a rat, bobbing for red noses and guess the baby photo, while students paid to wear non-uniform. Just over £1,250 was raised.
At Kedington Newsagents, owner Peter Upton dyed his hair red then recruited Cheryl Collins, from neighbouring Salon 56 to shave it off. He raised £215.
Members and volunteers at The Befriending Scheme’s hub at the Chalkstone Community Centre dressed in red and made cakes to help raise £35.
Children at Stepping Stone Under-Fives in Haverhill dressed in red for the day to raise £25.50.
At Linton Village College a charity bake off and non-uniform day, including fancy dress, raised more than £1,000.
Pupils at Westfield Primary School netted £467 after wearing red clothing, wacky/red hair and selling cakes.
