Get running with new course in Haverhill

Haverhill Running Club is set to start a new running course to have beginners taking part in a five kilometre challenge in three months.

The course will start on January 17, meeting at Haverhill Leisure Centre every Thursdsay at 7pm.

It lasts for ten weeks and follows a programme put together by England Athletics coaches.

The programme is designed with complete beginners in mind, and culminates in the five kilometre challenge.

All sessions are led by qualified coaches and run leaders from Haverhill Running Club, who have already helped 50 beginners through the course in 2012.

Mary Magee who joined the joined as a beginner in July, said of her experience of the course; “I was made to feel very welcome from week one.

“We started off slowly, to ensure that everyone could take part and keep up.

“The best thing about being part of the beginner’s group is that you are not doing it on your own – you are with a group of people at the same level of ability, with a common goal.

“The session leaders provided encouragement and support; they were also very knowledgeable, being able to provide lots of advice to a new runner, having once been there themselves.

“Having just reached 50, I feel fitter that I have for the last ten years, which is down to attending the beginners’ group.

“The group has had a positive effect not only on me but on the whole family, as the kids now join me when I go running.”

The course costs £40 and includes the ten sessions, a technical running top, hi-visibility running vest and membership of Haverhill Running Club so you can continue running in a supportive environment after the course.
