Great East Swim in Suffolk

IT’S TIME to sign up to the Great East Swim taking place at Alton Water in Suffolk on Saturday,June 22.

Now in its 5th year, the Great East Swim is an open water swim designed for swimmers of all abilities with four different distances on offer including ½ mile, 1 mile, 2 mile or 5 km for those who are more experienced, making it a real family event.

Since its launch in 2009 over 6500 people have taken part in the Great East Swim and it is estimated that it has benefited the local economy by approximately £1.85million.

Alongside the Great East Swim, there are also a variety of activities and events on offer on the day including free have a go sports, an impressive farmers market with lots of local produce to try and buy and live entertainment.

Councillor Colin Noble, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member responsible for sport, said: “It is important that we continue to create a long lasting legacy from the London 2012 Games if we are to become the most active county.

“The Great East Swim is a fantastic opportunity to get active and have fun. I would encourage anyone inspired to take on a challenge this year to sign up.”
