Havebury help people live independently in their own homes

Havebury Housing Partnership has launched a new support service across the borough to help elderly and disabled people live independently in the community.

The Community Floating Support Service offers people confidential advice and support in their homes on issues such as energy efficiency and safety and security.

Previously this service was only available to residents in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill, but now the service is available to anyone across the borough. Non-Havebury tenants must pay £20 per hour with a free initial one hour consultation.

As part of the service, Havebury’s team of advisers can give people advice in claiming benefits, managing debt, accessing home improvement grants and aid them in accessing local exercise programmes and classes.

Havebury’s Chief Executive Karen Mayhew explained: “Havebury has been involved with promoting the independence of elderly residents within communities for several years and we have successfully supported many residents in the Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill areas already.

“I am pleased that we can now offer this service across St Edmundsbury for the benefit of all our tenants and members of the local community.”

Havebury’s independence and advice co-ordinators visit tenants in their homes and carry out an assessment to identify and organise people’s support requirements. Anyone wishing to access this service should call 0300 3300900.

Havebury, which has offices in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, is a charity and not-for-profit association.

It currently manages 6,000 homes.
