Haverhill Borough face the daunting prospect of attempting to beat the only team in the entire Thurlow Nunn League with a 100 per cent winning record when they play at Halstead Town tonight (Tuesday, September 17).
Halstead have so far won five out of five in Division One and sit one point and one place behind fifth-placed Borough, who have played two games more.
A win for either side could theoretically propel them to the top of the table, but with second placed Swaffham Town at lowly Downham Town tonight that is unlikely.
Borough will be without both first choice central defenders as Harry O’Connor picked up a thigh strain in the 6-3 First Division Knockout Cup defeat at Stowmarket Town on Saturday and Ryan Geoghegan is still away.
Influential midfielders Harry Halls and Aaron Forshaw are also absent. Halls is ten days away from playing as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder while Forshaw picked up a hamstring injury playing on Sunday.
On the plus side skipper Jon Welsh returns, as does midfielder Luke Strutton and first choice goalie Liam Cutts.
Striker Shaun Avis, who only joined from Linton Granta in pre-season, has left the club already to join Saffron Walden Town after they put in a seven day approach.
Tonight’s match kicks off at 7.45pm.
