Three Haverhill army cadets will be going to Barbados for a fortnight from the end of July to take part in a camp challenge.

Billy Betts, Ben Beadle and Sonny Rosso will join 13 other cadets from the Suffolk Army Cadet Force at the Barbados International Cadet Challenge Camp 2013.

Cadets from other Caribbean islands and Canada have attended in the past.

The 14-18 year olds will compete in military challenges of shooting, fieldcraft, obstacle course and drill. They will also take part in public speaking, a concert, fun activities and a sports day.

Commander of the Haverhill detachment, Lt Kevin Betts, whose son Billy is among those going to the camp, said: “We are very proud that thre e out of the 13 cadets taking on the challenge, are from Haverhill.”

The 32 cadet candidates for the trip had to undergo a rigorous physical assessment weekend and sit an interview, to get through to the final 16.

Cadets have to help raise their own £850 air fare and more for blazers, ties and sportswear. To donate send a cheque payable to ‘A Coy Suffolk ACF’ to Kevin Betts, White Cottage, School Road, Kedington. CB9 7NG.
