A 94-year-old resident of a Haverhill care home has appeared before a judge accused of sex offences said to date back more than 30 years.

Frederick Smith, of Place Court Care Home in Camps Road, faces five separate charges involving the same girl.

Smith today (Tuesday) appeared at Ipswich Crown Court where Judge David Goodin told him that he would have to return on June 6 for a plea and case management hearing.

Smith is charged with four offences of indecent assault on a girl aged under 14 and one offence of gross indecency with a girl aged under 14.

It is alleged that the offences were committed between 1972 and 1982 in Haverhill.

Smith, who spoke only to confirm his name, will continue to be granted bail until his next court appearance.
