superstore
It was revealed that Sainsbury’s may have to foot the bill for half Haverhill’s long-awaited bypass in order to get permission for their new superstore in Hanchet End.
Peter Grimm, from Suffolk County Council highways, said negotiations with developers over recent months had included them providing not only the roundabout but also a distributor road linking with Camps Road.
The road would fulfil the function of easing traffic pressure on Withersfield Road and give a road that could eventually form part of the proposed bypass.
KINDNESS
A young couple who had £700 worth of furnishings burgled from the home they were setting up together in Haverhill were given a surprise helping hand by big-hearted neighbours.
A sponsored walk that raised £150 was kept secret from Glenn Bown, 23 and Lisa Wright, 19, who had lost the furnishings when intruders struck at their home in Fritton Court.
Richard Willett got together with Martin O’Neill, Jason O’Reilly, Anthony Proudfoot, Mark Collins, Craig Eden and Heidi Pfiffner to walk from Addenbrooke’s Hospital to Haverhill Youth Centre.
