A motorist ran into a nightmare when thugs hurled empty bottles through the windscreen of his van as he drove through Haverhill High Street at the weekend.
Gavin Potter, of West Wickham, was driving his van through the High Street at about 1.15am on a Saturday when two milk bottles were thrown at this windscreen by a gang of youths.
He was unhurt but immediately went to the police station to report it. By the time the police reached the High street the culprits had gone.
It was announced that there would be no more reprieves for Coupals old people’s home near Haverhill, which was set for closure in September, with the loss of 30 jobs.
Essex County Council’s social services committee decided to close the home, which had 17 residents.
The building, which had just one lift and a first floor that was not even used, had been deemed as unsuitable for use as an old people’s home.
